Bramefan
lies above the village of Clamensane, about a 20
minute drive away from La Toupine. The walk is short but steep, making it
ideal if you are limited by time or the weather. A waymarked petit
sentier leads you to the 1658m summit. |

La Baume
dominates the skyline over the town of Sisteron. The short but steep walk
follows the GR6 route and a petit sentier to a cave which lies just
a few metres of the mountain's 1147m summit. |

La
Bigue lies at 1653m between Digne and
Thoard. This walk follows the GR6 on tracks and paths on a 700m climb from
Thoard. Much of the walk climbs gently although there are some steep
sections. |

Standing high
above the village of La Motte Du Caire lies the rocky outcrop of Les
Chanderettes (1550m). The route described
starts from the tiny village of le Caire, a few kilometres to the north,
and follows forest tracks footpaths, with one very steep section. |

This is a
fairly easy walk to the col
de Clapouse, a pass that lies between
les Monges and la Laupie in the hills to the east of Valernes. The total
height gained is about 300m. |

The chapel de Saint Michel lies just
below the 1510m summit of Le
Cousson, just to the south of the town of
Digne. This walks starts from the edge of the town and follows
wooded paths and tracks with one vertiginous section at the Pas de
Boudillon. |

You can see the the 1356m
summit of the Gache
from the terrace of La Toupine, so why not try to to climb it? You have a
choice of two routes, one requiring the car and the other walkable from La
Toupine itself. |

A superb walk
that is worth the longish drive to get there. The summit of Guillaume
lies at an altitude of 2623m and overlooks the lac de Serre-Poncon. |

Melan
is reached by taking an impressive drive along the D3 road from Sisteron,
via Authon, to the parking area at the col de Fontbelle (1304m). A series
of footpaths (mostly well-marked) take you up to the 1728m summit. |

Three walks
are described here. You can reach the Les
Monges either from the west by taking the D3 road from Sisteron to Authon, or from the
north by taking the D951/D1 and a minor road to Esparron la Batie.
Each walk uses paths passing through trees, over narrow
vertiginous arretes and across wide-open spaces to reach the double 2111m
summits. |

La
Route de la Pinee is a moderate walk which
finishes at the lac des Monges, a small lake surrounded by woodland with
nearby views of the Reynier valley. |

Le
Foret du Vanson is an easy walk which lies
just to the south of the Gache. It reaches an altitude of 1212 metres and
the crete can be followed up to 1348 metres. |
