When eating out there are many restaurants to choose from, offering meals at prices to suit every pocket.
In Sisteron, Le Mondiale offers a quality lunchtime salad, while on the rue Saunerie both La Paix and the Creperie l'Akène offer good value pizzas, crepes and grills.
The Pizzaiollo near the town square also offers pizzas and regional dishes
- highly recommended. The Villa d'Est has great views over the Durance,
while the Grand
Hotel du Cours has probably the best food and service in
town.
More locally, try Chez
Betty, a marvelous Bistrot de Pays in the next village up the valley
from le Mas du Chene, St Vincent-sur-Jabron. Betty offers a simple choice
- the menu of the day or steak and chips, both at excellent prices.
At the other end of the scale, those wishing to enjoy gourmet cuisine of the highest order might try one of the best restaurants in the south of France,
la Bonne Etape at Chateau Arnoux. |

area is very popular with glider pilots, many of whom travel from the
furthest reaches of Europe, and beyond, to sample the exciting flying to
be achieved here. If you have ever had a secret yearning to give it a go,
most clubs offer trial flights (baptême de l'air)...[more] |

| Walking |

This part of the Haute Provence offers
superb walking opportunities for all abilities. Walkers
who are used to the crowded honeypots of England, such as
the Lake District, the Peaks and the Yorkshire Dales, will be pleasantly
surprised not only by the quality of the walking to be had in this area but also
by the marked absence of others doing the same. It is not at all unusual to
spend all day on the hills and not meet another soul - those seeking solitude in
the hills will not be disappointed. And the views are exceptional...[more]
