 | Drive from La
Toupine down the hill towards La Motte du Caire on the D951. A few
kilometers before La Motte, turn right on to the D1 through
Clamensane and, just when you are about to leave the village again,
take a left turn up a by-road to towards the settlement of les
Hautes Graves. Park the car at the end of the tarmac road next
to a forest track.
|
 | During the winter the road
to Haute Graves may be impassable to cars without ice-chains. If you
need to walk from Clamensane, allow an extra 30 minutes each way.
|
 | The forest track winds
gently up the lower flanks of Bramefan until a track leads off on
the right - keep an eye out
for the yellow marker. The path then climbs steeply through the
trees, emerging above the treeline (near where the picture below was
taken) onto a series of zig-zags which lead to the col de Basse.
|
 | The summit is reached after
a 20 minute steep climb up the face of the hill. There is no
footpath at this stage of the walk.
|
 | To return, retrace your
steps.
|
 | This is a very short walk -
if you are able to make the necessary transport arrangements, you
may choose to extend it by carrying on past les 4 Ternes towards La
Motte or le Caire, or perhaps heading towards the Basse de Bouchiere
to descend back to le Forest Lacour, further along the Clamensane
road.
