Home Up La Baume La Bigue Bramefan Col de Clapouse Les Chanderettes Le Cousson Gache Guillaume Melan Les Monges Route de la Pinee Foret du Vanson This is a short but steep walk which passes through a forest to emerge onto open hillside, from where a scramble up to the summit (1658m) is rewarded with views down the Sasse valley. The climb of about 650m will take about 1 h 30 min.

Bramefan Summit

Drive from La Toupine down the hill towards La Motte du Caire on the D951. A few kilometers before La Motte, turn right on to the D1 through  Clamensane and, just when you are about to leave the village again, take a left turn up a by-road to towards the settlement of les Hautes Graves. Park the car at the end of the tarmac road next to a forest track.

During the winter the road to Haute Graves may be impassable to cars without ice-chains. If you need to walk from Clamensane, allow an extra 30 minutes each way.

The forest track winds gently up the lower flanks of Bramefan until a track leads off on the right - keep an eye out for the yellow marker. The path then climbs steeply through the trees, emerging above the treeline (near where the picture below was taken) onto a series of zig-zags which lead to the col de Basse.

The summit is reached after a 20 minute steep climb up the face of the hill. There is no footpath at this stage of the walk.

To return, retrace your steps.

This is a very short walk - if you are able to make the necessary transport arrangements, you may choose to extend it by carrying on past les 4 Ternes towards La Motte or le Caire, or perhaps heading towards the Basse de Bouchiere to descend back to le Forest Lacour, further along the Clamensane road.
