Another sunny day...

Metéo

The good news is that the large area of high pressure currently dominating our weather is due to persist for several more days and, as stability increases, the likelihood of thunderstorms will be correspondingly reduced. There are many happy pilots, each looking forward to the chance of big flights.

The Modane Valley

John managed to reach the col de Carro (about 10,000ft), which leads into the Aosta valley. Conditions were good (12,500ft base, with occasional 6 knot climbs and one 10.3 knotter) although he managed to put himself into more than one hole from which it took time to escape. He returned through the col d'Eteche and, in the Ecrins, via a pass north of the pas de la Cavale. The local pundits flew to the Mont Blanc, but there was a little too much non-cumulus cloud on the mountain tops for John's liking.

Pic de Bure from 10,000ft

The total distance achieved was about 400km - see map. The most striking memories were the brilliant whiteness of the snow and the excellent clarity of the air in the Modane valley. Italy, just over the border, lay under low cloud, as usual. Today's flight made six days out of six for John, which is about par for the course at Sisteron.

And so, to dinner...
